To be fair, I have spent many an hour in the yard at the back of the Trafford, so you won't go far wrong there either.

The Mexican wave?! Shame on you!

Nice! I'll have to suggest that one. apparently, Jock normally goes to the The Trafford, but since we were borrowing a guy's season's tickets, and he didn't show up until just before kick off, we couldn't go in.

The one thing I miss...the Mexican wave. Can't beat that! But, the chants are incredible. I'm always asking...so, what are they saying now? What about now?

Ohh, that sounds like fun. The Man U store itself was insane - felt like I was in the Disney Store.
We looked for us in the highlights! Neville threw a couple of tantrums right in front of us, but besides that, the action was closer to the goal....luckily!

There's definitely a sense of belonging, even to a club that's as huge as Manchester United. The Special One (whose first game at OT was a 7-1 victory by the way...clearly American newbies are a good luck charm) is always impressed by process by which chants are invented and perpetuated...there just isn't that sense of community in American sport (even in colleges, really).

All that said, next time you go, you need to go for a beer in the Bishops Blaize before the game, and join in with the singing. And then have pie, chips and gravy from Lou Macari's Chip Shop as you walk to the ground. It's the law.

Last time I was there it was before the Glazer family was involved. If you get a chance, go on the the stadium tour. It was amazing to go behind the scenes and even in the locker room. You even was able to get a pic while standing on the field. :) The Man U museum was great too.

Glad you enjoyed the game. Couldn't say that I spotted you while I was watching it. LOL!

Oh goodie! Seriously, I do wish it would become more popular in North America. It's such a rewarding game. They don't pause for the advertisers, they play the game and don't rely on any video playback to help change the decisions of the refs...you get what you see, and that's that.
Definitely exciting to win! (although I did feel a bit bad for the other team 5-0)

I love this post. Even though I've never been to a football game, I now want to go. But in England. Not here :o.
We do have a "soccer" team in Toronto now, and they're doing OK for newbies. I'm planning on attending some of their games this summer. Let's see if I, too, can feel some sense of 'community', or if it will all feel like it's just for the money. I'm looking forward to finding out !
And... I'm soooo glad you won! Wasn't it exciting to be at a first game AND win? :)
